ATEX actuators - what are they used for?

A pneumatic actuator converts compressed air energy into linear motion. It drives, locks, presses and moves machine elements. In mining, it must also meet the requirements of the ATEX Directive because it operates in methane or coal dust explosion hazard zones, in dust, moisture and intensive operating cycles.

A pneumatic piston plunger is also an actuator. It has a special extended design and is used for moving mine cars on tracks in underground mines. All our mining actuators are certified under the ATEX quality system by KOMAG. Details are described on the page about pneumatics for the mining industry.

ISO 6431 pneumatic actuators (SSIG series)

Double-acting actuators compliant with ISO 6431, diameters D32-D320, working pressure up to 1.0 MPa, standard strokes 5-500 mm, with longer strokes available after consultation. Available with single-sided piston rod (G16) or double-sided piston rod (G17).

  • aluminium alloy piston, TARFLEN plastic guide ring with graphite additive, ŁS1 sintered bronze guide sleeve,
  • seals: PU polyurethane, VITON (FKM/FPM); “O” type sealing rings made of NBR or VITON,
  • connection threads G1/8-G1, depending on actuator diameter.

The order number is built from the actuator variety code (G16/G17), diameter code (E32 ... R320), stroke, sleeve type and material design markings - for example, ISO 6431 D63x250 actuator with chrome-plated sleeve: 12.G16H.0250C.

CNOMO pneumatic actuators (SCNG series)

Double-acting actuators in the CNOMO standard, diameters D32-D200, working pressure up to 1.0 MPa, standard strokes 5-500 mm. The same material class and special designs as in the ISO series, for installation compliant with the CNOMO standard. Variety code G01 for single-sided piston rod or G02 for double-sided piston rod - for example, CNOMO D63x250 actuator: 12.G01H.0250.

Pneumatic piston plungers

A pneumatic piston plunger is an extended actuator adapted for operation in methane explosion hazard zones, Group I, Category M2. It is used for moving mine cars on tracks in underground mines.

FAQ - ATEX actuators

Is a pneumatic piston plunger an actuator?

Yes. A pneumatic piston plunger is an extended pneumatic actuator adapted for moving mine cars on tracks in underground mines and for operation in an explosion hazard zone, Category M2.

What diameters and strokes are available?

ISO 6431 actuators are available in diameters D32-D320, CNOMO actuators in D32-D200, and piston plungers in D140-D200. Standard strokes are 5-500 mm; for piston plungers and custom designs, the stroke is selected according to customer requirements, including projects over 6000 mm.

Do you manufacture acid-resistant actuators?

Yes. Acid-resistant designs, chrome-nickel coated piston rods and VITON seals are available for aggressive and demanding environments.

What is the maximum working pressure?

ISO and CNOMO actuators, as well as piston plungers, operate at pressures up to 1.0 MPa, using filtered, lubricated or non-lubricated compressed air.

How is the order number structured?

It consists of the variety code for single-sided or double-sided piston rod, diameter code, stroke, sleeve type and material design markings - for example, D63x250 with chrome-plated sleeve: 12.G16H.0250C for ISO or 12.G01H.0250 for CNOMO.
